MAKABAYAN CONDEMNS US-ISRAEL AGGRESSION AGAINST IRAN

We condemn in the strongest terms the coordinated military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. This act of aggression represents a dangerous escalation that threatens to plunge the entire Middle East into a catastrophic regional war with global implications.

The so-called preemptive attack is nothing but naked imperialism cloaked in the rhetoric of self-defense. The United States and Israel have once again demonstrated their utter disregard for international law, national sovereignty, and the lives of ordinary people who will bear the brunt of this military adventure. Ang pag-atake na ito ay isang krimen laban sa kapayapaan at kasarinlan ng Iran at ng buong rehiyon.

The timing of this assault—during the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims around the world observe fasting and prayer—reveals the contempt these imperialist powers have for the religious and cultural sensibilities of Muslim peoples. This is not just a military attack but a deliberate provocation designed to inflame tensions and justify further aggression.

We reject the justifications offered by Washington and Tel Aviv. The claim that Iran poses an imminent threat is the same tired pretext used to justify decades of US military interventions across the globe—from Iraq to Libya to Afghanistan. These wars of aggression have brought nothing but death, destruction, and instability, enriching arms manufacturers and securing control over strategic resources while leaving millions dead and displaced.

The United States, which maintains hundreds of military bases around the world and possesses the largest nuclear arsenal on the planet, has no moral authority to lecture any nation about weapons programs or regional stability. Israel, which has conducted a genocidal campaign against Palestinians and maintains an undeclared nuclear weapons program, has no right to determine what constitutes a threat in the Middle East.

This attack exposes the hypocrisy of Western powers who claim to champion diplomacy while planning military strikes. Reports confirm that this operation was planned for months in coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, even as negotiations were supposedly underway. Ang diplomasya ay ginawang pantakip lamang habang naghahanda ng digmaan. This is imperialism’s modus operandi: talk of peace while preparing for war.

We stand in solidarity with the Iranian people and all peoples of the Middle East who face the threat of US-Israeli military aggression. The Filipino people know too well the cost of US military intervention and the false promises of American protection. Ang Estados Unidos ay hindi tagapagligtas kundi mananakop, hindi tagapagdala ng kapayapaan kundi ng digmaan at kamatayan.

We call on the Marcos Jr. administration to condemn this act of aggression and to refuse any participation in or support for US military operations against Iran, especially using tne EDCA sites. The Philippines must not allow its territory, airspace, or waters to be used as staging grounds for imperialist wars.

The Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement and other military agreements with the United States must not drag our country into conflicts that serve only American strategic interests. This highlights the need to terminate the EDCA sites and EDCA itself because they violate ojr sovereignty, drag us into conflict and represent military targets for enemies of the US.

We call on the Filipino people to oppose US-Israeli aggression and to demand an end to Philippine complicity in American wars. The money spent on bombs and missiles should go to addressing poverty, hunger, and underdevelopment. The lives sacrificed in imperialist wars could be saved and enriched through genuine development and cooperation among nations.

The path to peace in the Middle East does not lie in military strikes and regime change operations orchestrated by Washington and Tel Aviv. It lies in respecting the sovereignty of nations, ending military occupations and blockades, addressing the legitimate grievances of oppressed peoples, and building a new international order based on equality and mutual respect rather than domination and exploitation.
