TIME TO ACT AND TAKE TO THE STREETS: FIGHT VS OIL PRICE HIKE!

The Makabayan Bloc demands immediate action to combat the inevitable soaring oil prices triggered by the US and Israel’s war on Iran. The Filipino people are already suffering from weekly oil price hikes, but with the US-Israeli attack on Iran oil prices skyrocketied by P15.00 per liter for diesel, P7.00 for gasoline, and P28.00 for kerosene in just three days. This is a direct blow to drivers, farmers, fisherfolk, workers, and every Filipino family.

The Marcos Jr. regime is showing blatant neglect by waiting instead of acting now. “Every day that the government delays, every day that they wait for some arbitrary number, is another day of unpreparedness and would cause immense suffering for millions of Filipino families. We cannot wait for $80 per barrel when the people are already drowning at $78,. In fact, oil price is already over $80 per barrel,” the Bloc stated.

We call on all sectors to unite and protest. Malacañang must certify as urgent House Bill 215, the Presyo Ibaba Bill, which seeks to junk excise tax and VAT on oil, power, water, toll, and food. A long-term solution is also required, including the passage of reform bills to regulate the oil industry and the renationalization of Petron.

“Hindi lamang krisis sa seguridad ang digmaan ng US at Israel—krisis din ito sa kabuhayan para sa atin. Dapat kumilos agad ang mga nasa poder, at dapat nilang gawin ang agarang aksyon,” Makabayan added.

Enough of suffering and waiting. We must not let the people bear the cost of an imperialist war. We must take our call to the streets: Scrap oil taxes! Pass HB 215! End oil cartel profiteering!
